IncogVPN FAQ Print

This is just a general FAQ. If your question is not covered here, please feel free to open a ticket. Pre-sales / general question tickets usually get lower priority than support for existing customers and active services, but we will try to get back to you in a prompt manner.

Do you log anything? Can you tell what websites I visit or what I search for?

  • The only information "logged" is the last handshake time of any particular WireGuard profile, which is necessary for managing the active session of the user. The last handshake timestamp in WireGuard is maintained by the kernel and cannot be manually reset or modified. It continues to display the time since the last handshake (30 minutes ago, 12 days ago, 3 months ago, 4 years ago, etc). This information is essential for the operation of the protocol and is not designed to be altered or cleared. As a workaround for the privacy conscious, you can delete and recreate profiles as needed, which would delete any previous handshake information. Deleting and recreating a profile would require that any device using the old profile also be updated with your new profile configuration.

  • We do not log DNS queries.

  • We do not log or capture traffic.

  • We do monitor bandwidth used, which is used to determine potential service abuse. This reveals no identifying data related to the websites you visit, what IPs of servers you connect to, what you search for, etc. If a bandwidth threshold is met that may indicate abuse, such as using your full connection speed (500Mbps or 1.5Gbps depending on your plan) for many hours on end, then throttling of that account to a lower speed may take place to maintain service quality for all users. This is part of our Fair Use Policy and this action is similar to that of competing VPN providers who offer privacy based services.

What is "fair use" of the bandwidth?

  • We have no strict monthly bandwidth cap or limit, but may throttle your connection if we detect what we would consider abuse. A good rule of thumb is that you're not maxing out your connection (500Mbps for basic plans, 1.5Gbps for other plans) for more than 6 hours consecutively.

  • IncogVPN is designed for 'normal' personal, hobby and homelab use.

Are any ports blocked?

  • Customers with port forwarding enabled will find that typical mail ports are blocked. This may be something we can lift on a per-request basis assuming there is strict agreement that you will not be sending spam from our network.

Do you have a public blocklist? How often is it updated?

  • We use the open sourced "oisd big" list, which in itself is a well respected and well maintained (often updated daily) curated combination of other lists. You can find out more about it here: https://oisd.nl/ . We check for updates each hour, and update our blocklists if changes are made.

I don't want to use your ad-blocking DNS, is there a way to opt out of it?

  • Of course. In your WireGuard configuration you'll see the following line:
DNS = 23.X.X.X,23.X.X.X

There should be two separate IPs here. You may replace them with the DNS resolvers of your choice, whether it be Quad9, OpenDNS, DNSCry.pt, Cloudflare, Google, etc.

Does IncogVPN have IPv6 connectivity?

  • Currently, no, but we plan to support it in the future. Due to the way our network resources are managed across different locations, it’s not feasible to offer consistent IPv6 support at this time. We prefer to maintain the same feature set across all locations instead of having it enabled in some and not in others.

Can I use the same profile on multiple devices at the same time?

  • Two devices can not be using the same profile at the same time, which is why we offer you the ability to generate profiles as needed (within your subscribed limit). So, while you can't (For example) have your laptop and phone use the same profile at the same time and maintain internet connectivity on both devices, you can instead use two separate profiles so each separate device has it's own. That will work.

My country blocks WireGuard and common VPN protocols, do you offer a solution for those living in restrictive countries?

  • We're extremely sympathetic to citizens of countries who do not have access to the free and open internet. Unfortunately, at this time, we have no solution to offer you. We continue to research ways to obscure your traffic so that it may pass through the firewall of the ISPs in your country, unblocked. The methods deployed by nations like China, Turkmenistan and others is constantly changing and hard to combat. Please consider options such as I2P and Tor.

Do you have a public network status page for IncogVPN?
